Power blaze hits homes
Date published: 29 August 2013
MORE than 750 homes and businesses were left without power following a fire in an electricity substation in Failsworth last night.
Nine fire fighters from Hollins and Philips Park stations spent two hours tackling the blaze outside Tesco Express, Ashton Road West, off Oldham Road, shortly before 9.20pm.
The store was evacuated as they battled to stop flames spreading. An electical fault has been blamed.
Electricty North-West said that the majority of homes hit had their power restored by 12.30am.
