PARENTS at two primary schools have risen to the challenge to get involved in their children’s learning.
Now their dedication and hard work has earned them a Pride in Oldham nomination.
Martine Buckley, executive head teacher at Yew Tree and Mather Street schools, put forward the parents for high standard of the “fantastic” homework challenges they do with the children.
Every few weeks pupils are given a task relating to the topic they are studying in school. This can be completed in any way they like and Mrs Buckley explained: “It’s not so much about getting parents involved in homework, more about getting them involved in learning as we know this links to attainment. An example would be a Year 1 project about buildings and structures when families together produced replicas of famous buildings around the world.”
