Sewer project to be a stinker

Date published: 06 September 2013

SADDLEWORTH villagers are being urged to attend a key meeting to hear plans which will have a massive impact on travelling across the community for eight months.

United Utilities are launching major project to solve the misery of flooding for residents in parts of Uppermill.

The utility giant plans to improve the local sewer network in sections of Church Road, New Street and Bolton’s Yard in a scheme worth almost £1million.

But work will involve temporary traffic lights on Church Road from September 16 followed by a number of temporary road closures with entire project expected to be finished next April. And there will be diversions of more than three miles across the patchwork of country lanes.

Engineers have pledged to keep disruption to a minimum but residents can find out more details at a special drop-in information event at Uppermill Civic Hall in Lee Street on Wednesday, September 25.

Project staff will be available between 4pm - 7pm to answer questions and show plans and maps.

Project manager Ian Grzelak said work had been scheduled to avoid the busy summer tourist season and events, including Christmas, at the request of Oldham Council.
