THE sun shone on the inaugural Sadd Fest 13 in Greenfield on Saturday.
Visitors of all ages descended on Saddleworth Rangers rugby ground to enjoy music, food and drink in the sunshine at the all-day event, organised by Saddleworth Round Table.
Eleven musical acts performed, from Mossley teen sensation Daniela Croston to DJ Mike Sweeney and Paddy O’Hare.
The new event follows the demise two years ago of the Saddleworth Beer Walk. In its final year that event raised £41,000 for charity.
Event organiser David MacDougall, the beer walk’s last chairman, said almost 1,000 people attended on Saturday.
“Sadd Fest 13 is exactly how we wanted it and visualised it, everyone having a really great day,” he said.
Funds from the day will pay for Round Table Christmas parties for the elderly, and Christmas events in Uppermill.
Festival-goer Ray Wallis, from Diggle, agreed. He said: “Having a music festival is a really good idea.
“I hope it becomes a regular fixture over the next few years because it has potential.”
