AN inspirational young Oldhamer has won a second award for his basketball coaching skills.

Lewis Scott, who coaches at Oldham Titans and Oldham Central, picked up the Young Volunteer Coach of the Year Award at the National England Basketball Volunteer awards in Birmingham.

His latest success comes just months after winning the Young Volunteer of the Year prize at the One Future Sports Awards in Oldham.

The 21 year old, who combines being a teaching assistant at Mather Street with PE teaching at Yew Tree, was a basketball player until a knee injury forced a move into coaching.

He now organises training for teams from the Oldham League to the National League.

The National England Basketball Volunteer Awards saw prizes handed out across 11 categories to honour and recognise those who offer their services on a local, regional and national scale throughout England.

Lewis said: “I am extremely proud to have been given this award. I love coaching basketball and it’s always pleasing to see young people progress in the sport.”

Neil Consterdine, vice-chairman of Oldham Titans and Oldham Council’s head of youth and leisure, added: “Lewis has worked extremely hard over the past 12 months putting in hundreds of hours of volunteer coaching.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Lewis and he is a credit to Oldham Titans Basketball Club. He has certainly helped put Oldham on the map.”
