OLDHAM Mayor Councillor John Hudson will attend a commemorative parade and service on Sunday to mark the 73rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The event, to honour local Royal Air Force servicemen and women, will be attended by Veterans’ Associations and Air Cadet Squadrons around the borough.
Starting at 11.30am, they will parade from Tommyfield Market to the original Oldham war memorial in the grounds of Oldham Parish Church for a memorial service. Councillor Hudson will give a short speech and lay a wreath. After the service, they will march along Yorkshire Street before returning to Tommyfield at 12.30pm for refreshments.
Ahead of the 100-year anniversary of the First World War, Oldham Council has been working to restore the Oldham War Memorial in the town centre, which was unveiled to the public last month.
