Glass-attack drinker escapes prison term

A young businessman who hurled a pint pot at a drinker in a bar was told he escaped being sent to prison by a whisker.
Josh Pegler (23) saw red when the other man, who seemed drunk, kept bumping into a female friend at the Legends club in Lees where he was enjoying a night out.
The man, Daniel Hyde was hit in the face and needed 13 stitches.
Pegler, of Highmoor View, Oldham, afterwards maintained he had meant to hurl only the liquid contents, and not the glass.
Sentencing him at Manchester Crown Court, Judge Bernard Lever told him he was satisfied the act had been reckless rather than deliberate.
He was said to have been candid with officers about what had happened at the club, and had shown remorse.
Pegler, who pleaded guilty to wounding, was sentenced to 12 months, suspended for two years, plus a four-month term of electronic tagging, between 9pm-6am.
The judge ordered the tagging should then continue at weekends for another two months. Pegler will also pay £2,000 compensation and £500 costs.
