BITING the bullet . . . John Frankell and Peter Archer prepare for the beer festival
TWO dedicated drinkers will bite the bullet at the weekend and host a charity fund-raising beer festival.
Jon Frankell and Peter Archer, with the support of Uppermill Conservative Club, will offer 30 ales, lagers and ciders from across the country at Uppermill Civic Hall’s Saddleworth Beer Festival tomorrow and Saturday.
Guests can sample one of the stand-out brews — Saddleworth Bullet — brewed as an affectionate tribute to Saddleworth Morris Men, who celebrate their 40th anniversary this year.
Jon said: “The bullet is given to a morris man as a forfeit for making a mistake or performing a dance which is not up to par!”
The beer will sit alongside other distinguished ales from Millstone Brewery and Greenfield Real Ale Brewery, among others.
Live bands will provide entertainment throughout the two-day event, from which the pair hope to beat last year’s fund-raising total of £1,700.
Proceeds go to community projects, the Royal British Legion and Dr Kershaws Hospice.
