NO introduction needed . . . Ryan Thomas (left) meets Prince William at Skillforce charity gala in London where he received the Prince’s Award
NO introduction was needed when Prince William met Oldham student Ryan Thomas.
The 16-year-old former Failsworth School pupil was at a charity gala in London to accept a SkillForce Prince’s Award when the Duke of Cambridge shook hands with the words: “So you’re the famous Ryan?”
It was a day to remember for Ryan, who not only met William — the patron of SkillForce, which uses the skills and experiences of ex-forces personnel to inspire young people — but a host of celebrities including singer Rod Stewart.
Ryan was selected for the award after helping to repaint Failsworth Youth Centre.
“I am really proud of him,” said his mum, Susan.
“He was really chuffed to meet Prince William. He said he was so down to earth and easy to talk to. If it wasn’t for SkillForce he would never have done anything like this.”
Ryan is now studying on an auto electrical course at Openshaw College, and has been asked to keep in touch with SkillForce and be an ambassador for other young people.
SkillForce instructor Gareth Makin said: “It was an honour to introduce Ryan to The Duke of Cambridge.”
