AN elderly woman was knocked down and injured in the face as she tried to stop thieves snatching her handbag.
The 72-year-old woman was waiting for a bus in Abbeyhills Road on Saturday evening when the muggers pounced.
One of them snatched the woman’s black handbag, which contained a mobile phone and some cash. She was knocked to the ground and hit her face on the pavement.
The thief ran off with his two accomplices. The victim’s 74-year-old husband tried to chase them, but was left behind.
The three men, all believed to be Asian, were aged between 15 and 21.
Det Cons Ged Hollywood said: “This was a callous attack on a vulnerable member of our community who was simply minding her own business. The offenders are clearly opportunistic cowards who spotted an elderly woman and thought she would be easy prey.”
