Cricketers in for a rough night

Date published: 04 October 2013

THREE local cricket stars are to swap their bats and pads for sleeping bags and blankets tonight.

Former Royton professional Luke Procter, ex-Greenfield player Kyle Hogg and Delph’s Arron Lilley will join their Lancashire skipper, Glen Chapple, and former county team-mate Gareth Cross, by sleeping under the skies of Audenshaw.

They will be contributing to a national initiative called Byte Night, which has been organised by the IT industry to raise money for Action For Children — a charity aimed at preventing youth homelessness.

Pace bowler Hogg (30), who was a key player in Lancashire’s County Championship second division title-winning side, said: “It all starts at 6.30pm and the idea is to sleep out in the open to get a feel of what it’s like for those who are homeless.”

An area for the overnight sleep is not being revealed, but there will be no tents as the five cricketers attempt to reach their target of raising £2,500 for the worthy cause.
