500 in the running for half-marathon
Date published: 08 October 2013
OLDHAM’S gruelling Milltown to Moors half-marathon is back and will be bigger and better, say organisers.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, an extra 200 places are being made available - which means 500 runners will now be able to pound the streets between Oldham and Saddleworth on October 20.
Last year’s winner, Commonwealth Games athlete Andi Jones, says the race could become one of the best half-marathons in the country.
Starting in Oldham High Street, runners head towards Saddleworth before returning to town centre — making it one of the hilliest, most scenic half-marathons around.
The route has a slight change to last year, with the final mile now taking athletes through Glodwick.
The half-marathon has already become a firm fixture in the race calendar thanks to its challenging course and climb of around 1,100ft.
