Taxi driver’s terror in stabbing ordeal

A TAXI driver was stabbed during a robbery after he stopped to pick up a fare.

The drama unfolded after 9pm on Sunday, when the 36 year old stopped in Park Lane, off Ashton Road, Hathershaw and was approached by two men.

One threatened him with a knife and demanded his takings as the second tried to take his mobile phone and charger. The driver was stabbed several times in the arm as he tried to stop them

When the attackers were disturbed by a passer-by they grabbed the cabbie’s car keys and ran off. The driver is recovering in hospital.

Both thugs are white and in their early or mid-20s.

The knifeman is described as 6ft tall and of slim build and was wearing a grey cotton tracksuit and red patterned scarf. The second is of medium build and 5ft 10in. He wore a black nylon jacket with the hood up, and black tracksuit trousers.

Detective Constable Gulnaz Akhtar, based at Oldham Police Station, said: “Thankfully, the passer-by disturbed them before things got worse. I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or saw two men running away from Park Lane to contact police.”
