Shaken, but shop OAP won’t stir from her till

A 76-year-old robbery victim was defiantly back behind her shop counter today

On Wednedday a thief jumped the counter at her Honeywell Lane convenience store and pushed the elderly woman before putting his hand over her mouth and grabbing the till cash.

He ran off as a passer-by tried to stop him. The raider made off with some of the cash.

Despite her ordeal, the plucky shop owner, who has run the store for 32 years, is continuing to work, saying: “I’m all right; I’m not too bad.”

She said: “I had an idea he would do something as he had rubber gloves on. He jumped over the counter and put his hand over my mouth. I managed to reach the panic button. He took the till draw out and jumped back out with it and ran.”

The man is described as white, aged between 30 and 40, and skinny. He was wearing a cap, sunglasses, a green camouflage coat and latex gloves. Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Det Cons Sam Blackwood said: “We are urging anyone who may have seen this man running from the shop to call us. In particular we are keen to speak to the man who intervened. ”
