MEMBERS of a lottery-funded Oldham community cookery scheme will appear on TV tomorrow.
The Fairtrade in Oldham cookery group will star in a primetime ITV advert as part of a new campaign to promote the National Lottery’s new Lotto game.
The “new dawn for Lotto” advert will feature Oldham people, including members of Oldham Sea Cadets, cooking a chicken korma while singing the lines ‘from chicken korma to Nessun Dorma’, to Gilbert O’Sullivan’s catchy classic song ‘Ooh-Wakka-Do-Wakka- Day’. Only seven community projects across the UK were chosen to appear in the TV advert.
Fairtrade in Oldham received National Lottery funding for cookery workshops which use only fairtrade and locally-sourced ingredients.
Judith Haughton, from Fairtrade in Oldham, said: “I didn’t realise all the hard work that goes into the filming of an advert. It was exciting for us all to get involved in cooking while singing the song. Funding has helped us to bring community groups together across Oldham.”
The voluntary organisation received £9,770 of National Lottery funding through the Big Lottery Fund for 10 food-sharing workshops for community groups. Fairtrade in Oldham currently has 20 shops, cafes and catering business members from Shaw to Saddleworth.
