Parking passes spark anger

PARKING restrictions in Boundary Park Road have caused uproar among residents.
One 20-year resident claims the council hasn’t thought the changes through.
The authority imposed a residents’ only policy to reduce the impact of street parking during Oldham Athletic matches. But some residents have been angered when family gatherings were spoiled by the restrictions.
Rosemary Stewart said she thought Christmas might be ruined - since family members won’t be able to park near her home
“I just don’t think the council is seeing the bigger picture here. I’m concerned I won’t be able to have my family to stay at Christmas now.”
Oldham Council has refuted the claims. Councillor Dave Hibbert said the authority was prepared to make concessions in some circumstances.
He said: “Most people in Boundary Park Road supported these parking restrictions in a consultation. Each household is given two guest permits, which is ample for most people. Giving away too many makes the whole scheme pointless. In circumstances like throwing a party or family gatherings, I urge people to contact the parking management team. They will work to assist in any way they can.”
