CANCER patients can get their chemotherpay closer to home thanks to the Christie hospital’s new £700,000 mobile unit.
The specially-built treatment facility will pay its first visit to Asda, Chadderton on Thursday (8am-4pm), and every Thursday. The unit will also visit high-demand areas in Rochdale, Stretford, Hyde and Bolton over each week.
Christie nurses willl duplicate the high standards of treatment and care normally seen in the main hospital in Didsbury.
The unit has four treatment chairs, which allow nurses to see to up to 20 patients a day.
Caroline Shaw, chief executive at The Christie, said; “It’s extremely exciting that this unit is now on the road.
“Chemotherapy treatment can be so challenging and draining — physically, emotionally and socially.
“The unit will spare our patients the burden, cost and time of travelling to our main site.
Christie patients in the area can find out if they are eligible for treatment by the unit by contacting Danielle Longworth on 0161 918 7671.
