Lloyd takes lead on dog ASBOs
Date published: 18 October 2013
THE Government has missed a chance to introduce laws to prevent fatal dog attacks, Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner says.
Tony Lloyd voiced his disappointment after Parliament voted against dog-control notices — ”dog ASBOs” - yesterday.
Such control notices would force irresponsible dog owners to control their pets and help prevent attacks.
Now Mr Lloyd is calling on the Government to rethink the legislation as it moves into the House of Lords.
“I welcome tougher sentences for people who allow their dogs to attack - but prevention is better than cure,” he said.
