Heroin gang jailed for 66 years
Date published: 18 October 2013
Oldham drugs gang members have collectively been jailed for more than 66 years.
Eighteen gang members were hit in an operation by GMP to target the local supply of heroin.
The gang, led by Mohammed Imran Khan (34), sent kilos of the drug in bars of soap, hollowed-out books, bedding and children’s clothes.
Khan was caught after 1.5 kilos of heroin was unwittingly imported by parcels carrier Fedex to the house of Khan’s street dealers in Burnley. The parcel was seized at Stansted Airport and Khan arrested two days later.
Khan, of Cotton Mill Crescent, Oldham, was jailed for nine years and four months at Manchester Crown Court yesterday, admitting conspiracy to import heroin.
The operation resulted in police seizing two kilos of heroin worth nearly £500,000 on the street — though police believe the racket was far bigger.
The prosecution intends to recoup some of the money made by the gang under the Proceeds of Crime Act
