Child sex gang lose jail appeal

A GANG of paedophiles who abused young girls in Rochdale have been refused leave to appeal against their sentences.

The sex beasts were members of a gang jailed for between four and 19 years following last year’s trial.

As many as 50 victims - mostly girls aged between 13 and 15 - were given alcohol, food and money in exchange for sex in 2008 and 2009.

Police said the girls were from “chaotic backgrounds” and treated as though they were “worthless”.

The men now have a fortnight to renew their application for permission to appeal.

Ringleader Shabir Ahmed (60) was jailed for 19 years for conspiracy, two counts of rape, aiding and abetting rape, sexual assault and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Oldhamer Kabeer Hassan (26) got nine years for rape and three years for conspiracy.

The rest of the gang included father of five Abdul Rauf (six years), Mohammed Sajid (12 years), Adil Khan (eight years), Mohammed Amin (five years), Abdul Qayyum (six years) and illegal immigrant Hamid Safi (four years).
