A CHURCH rector has turned a humble supermarket trolley into a focus for food aid.
The Saddleworth team of Anglican churches has been a strong supporter of Oldham Food Bank since its foundation.
But now Fr Christopher Halliday on St Anne’s Church, Lydgate, has found a novel use for a new supermarket trolley on long term-loan from Tesco in Greenfield.
The church’s council wanted to involve residents from nearby Grasscroft and Grotton in weekly collections of dry and tinned foods.
“Parishioners regularly contribute but St Anne’s isn’t open all the time. Tesco offered the trolley, which will be put outside, near the lychgate, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for people to leave donations for the Food Bank
“We often see trolleys as an eyesore when they are abandoned, but our trolley has found a good home for a good purpose.”
