Rail trips less of a pain

Trains from Greenfield Station will terminate at Stalybridge from this Saturday until December 1 during preparatory electrification work.
Passengers will have to travel to Manchester Victoria by bus, but trains from Stalybridge to Manchester Piccadilly won’t be affected, following intervention by the Stalybridge to Huddersfield Rail Users’ Group (SHRUG), which has won extra services during closures.
From Christmas Eve until January 2, more closures will mean replacement bus services or the tram between Manchester Victoria and Ashton.
Trans-Pennine Express trains will make extra stops at Stalybridge during both closures — giving a half-hourly service to Piccadilly.
THE frequency of trams between Shaw and Crompton and Exchange Square in Manchester will double to every six minutes by the end of 2015 under plans by Transport for Greater Manchester.
The move is part of Metrolink’s Second City Crossing (2CC), which will connect Victoria Station with St Peter’s Square.
The new line will allow an increase in capacity in the city centre, so Metrolink will be able to increase the frequency of some services, including the Oldham/Rochdale line
