Jobs a key issue for the young

MORE work-experience opportunities could be the key to overcoming youth unemployment in Oldham, according to the borough’s young people.
Over the last 18 months, teenagers from Oldham Youth Council have made youth unemployment their primary campaign and consulted nearly 7,000 youngsters.
A lack of work experience opportunities was voted one of the most important issues now schools are no longer required to acquire places for their students.
Some schools in Oldham no longer offer work experience to students and others offer limited scope.
In a motion to be proposed at tonight’s full council meeting, Oldham Youth Council will ask the council to review work experience offered across the borough.
