The Greaves Arms: may not stay this way for long
A famous town centre pub has closed - but plans for the town centre could give it a new lease of life.
The Greaves Arms, next to Oldham Parish Church has been boarded-up and some items thrown in a skip outside the main entrance.
Manchester-based property firm Jenics is advertising the building, which houses a Ladbrokes betting shop in its lower floor on Yorkshire Street.
Jenics woudn’t comment on the site’s future except to say Chorley-based Trust Inns had an interest.
Agents believe plans to turn the old town hall - directly opposite the building - into a cinema and shopping complex will put the Greaves in a prime position for redevelopment.
The Greaves, built in 1925, has opened and closed several times in recent years.
