OLDHAM Council has strengthened its support for military families by signing the Armed Forces Community Covenant.
Local communities will now be able to apply for grants from a £30 million national Community Covenant Grant Scheme to help fund projects aimed at bringing service personnel together with members of the wider community.
Councillor Jean Stretton, Oldham Council’s Cabinet member for co-operatives and neighbourhoods, said: “The covenant was signed on behalf of everyone in Oldham, and represents our respect and recognition to the brave men and women in our Armed Forces.
“It is about recognising people who do their bit, so we want to celebrate the excellent contribution made by people serving in the forces, veterans and their families.”
