Rami Elakkas, 26 of Lacrosse Avenue, Oldham pleaded guilty to fly tipping after dumping a van load of household rubbish on private land - just roads away from Arkwight Street Recycling Centre. He was fined £360 and ordered to pay £866 costs with a victim surcharge of £36.
A LAZY fly-tipper dumped a van load of household rubbish on private land — only yards from a recycling tip.
Rami Elakkas (26), of Lacrosse Avenue, Werneth, emptied the rubbish on land off Edward Street - even though the Arkwight Street recycling centre was around the corner.
The huge pile of rubbish, dumped in front of Hartford Mill in July, included settees and a chest of drawers. The Chronicle understands the rubbish was from a house clearance Elakkas couldn’t be bothered to dispose of appropriately.
When council officers tracked him down, he admitted fly-tipping and was fined £360 with £902 costs.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Oldham Council’s Cabinet member for environment and housing, said: “He has shown total disregard for the environment and the local community. The majority clean up after themselves - but I can assure those who flout the law that Oldham Council will prosecute them.”
Elakkas was one of six people prosecuted by Oldham Council for breaching environmental health laws.
