Woman on bridge shuts motorway
Date published: 04 November 2013
THE M62 near Rishworth Moor was closed in both directions on Friday after a woman threatened to jump from a bridge on to the motorway.
The 90-minute closure, from 11.45am, caused traffic chaos around the Saddleworth and Oldham/Rochdale junctions as traffic swiftly backed up and approaching vehicles were directed off at junction 22 for Saddleworth.
The woman, who was on the B6114 Saddleworth Road bridge over the M62, next to Scammonden reservoir, was eventually led to safety by police at 1.11pm, and handed over to emergency services for care.
