DOCTOR Who time-travelled by Tardis into Oldham on Saturday - to wage war on a band of intergalactic baddies.
The chilling threats of the Daleks floated out over the crowds, while a cyberman stomped slowly and relentlessly around the town centre streets.
But the pair reined-in their evil tendancies to pose for pictures with excited youngsters at Tommyfield market hall.
Dalek Day was part of Oldham’s week-long Dr Who 50th anniversary celebrations, timed to coincide with half-term.
Stalls outside the market showcased the Dalek and other scary characters from the cult TV series, and Oldham Small Cinema set up a temporary screen in a shop backing on to the market, screening free showings of classic Dr Who episodes — with a bag of popcorn thrown in for all who took a seat.
Dr Who and a throng of his assistants plucked from over the decades, milled around the town, courtesy of Oldham Theatre Workshop, drumming up support for the attractions on offer.
An exhibition showcased a tardis, on its first visit to the North-West from Edinburgh, as well as the time-travelling machine’s control console and all kinds of Dr Who memorabilia.
The 11th Doctor (Matt Smith — aka Scott McDowell from Oldham Theatre Workshop) enthralled youngsters who couldn’t believe their eyes.
