Union boss joins striking firefighters

MEMBERS of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) staged another strike this morning.
The action, from 6am-8am, followed Friday’s four and a half hour stoppage when senior FBU officials joined Chadderton firefighters on the picket line.
Friday’s action, between 6.30pm-11pm on one of the service’s busiest nights of the year, rsulted in no major incidents in Oldham.
The union says the Government has failed to offer guarantees on jobs or pensions as a result of increasing the retirement age from 55 to 60. It wants both parties to get round the table to thrash out a deal acceptable to both sides.
As today’s strike ended, the Chadderton crews turned out at 8.01am to a three-car smash on the M60 near Hollinwood.
