TRACK travel was the order of the day for Oldham’s Mayor, Councillor John Hudson, when he boarded a tram in Oldham to the Shaw and Crompton station.
The borough’s first citizen was escorted from his stop by Councillor David Murphy, chairman of Shaw and Crompton parish council, to unveil a plaque commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Oldham to Rochdale railway line.
Around 25 rail enthusiasts were there to hear the town crier read a report which appeared in the Oldham Chronicle on November 7, 1863, to mark the opening of the line.
