Youngsters are getting Ahead

Warburtons is providing nearly £15,000 of funding to support Mahdlo’s Get Ahead project.

The grant builds on the success of last year’s pilot project which saw 80 per cent of young people completing the Changing Futures programme move into employment or training.

This year the company has agreed to fund three more Changing Futures courses that will give young people direct links to Oldham’s employers and the skills and confidence to access the opportunities available.

It is also funding a weekly homework club in Mahdlo’s Schools Out session (3.30-5.30pm) and a weekly job club and enterprise hub in the senior zone over a 12-week period.

Youth Work Week is an annual celebration aiming to raise awareness of the valuable role youth work plays in empowering and supporting young people. This year there is a particular focus on building skills for employability.

This funding from Warburtons comes in addition to funding from Accenture which will fund complementary employability courses and work experience opportunities.

The Changing Futures programme and the new Accenture Get the Skills programme both kick off in the New Year and will enable young people to develop their skills to become more employable and offer fantastic opportunities to engage with Oldham’s businesses.
