Title hat-trick caps a great night out

LIQUID and Envy nightclub were the big winners as Oldham’s nightlife teams celebrated at the third Best Bar None awards.

The Waterloo Street venue won the best club category and then claimed the overall prize ahead of the Up Steps (best pub) and Coliseum Theatre (best bar) at a sparkling awards night held at the Blue Tiffin.

Then, to complete a memorable hat-trick, Liquid and Envy’s Terry Bruce received a special achievement award for his efforts in promoting an on-line Pubwatch scheme to keep undesirables out of town-centre venues.

Terry said: “We are delighted to have been recognised in the awards — they are very important for the nightlife trade in Oldham as they do a great job in raising standards and making the public feel safe.

“I am so pleased for the staff at Liquid and Envy who have worked very hard to make sure we meet the Best Bar None criteria.

“For people like our door staff — some of whom have been with us over 10 years — this shows that their efforts are valued.”

Of his own special recognition award, Terry — who has worked in several town-centre bars in Oldham — said he had received support from many local managers and licensees and thanked them for getting involved.

There was a second special award — outstanding contribution — and that went to the Oldham Street Angels team who volunteer to be on the streets of the town centre at weekends and bank holidays to offer safe refuge and assistance to those who need it.
