Safety tips as winter approaches
Date published: 08 November 2013
HEALTH professionals are urging Oldhamers to stay safe as wintry weather blasts the borough.
Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has teamed up with the council to offer help to those who can’t afford to heat their home.
Anyone interested can apply for free energy-saving home improvements, such as insulation and upgraded heating systems, if they live in an area that is eligible or are on qualifying benefits.
The team will also offer free advice on energy bills and provide debt advice in a bid to lift 1,000 homes out of fuel poverty this winter. For more details ring 0800-019 1084 or email warmhomesoldham@keepmoat.com
Dr Ian Wilkinson, chief clinical officer at Oldham CCG, said: “It is important that people think ahead before the cold weather arrives, especially in providing for vulnerable groups.
“Their health is hit hardest by the winter conditions, and a simple journey to buy food or make an energy payment can become an impossible task.
“Although it is important to remember, however well prepared you are, if you become concerned about your health contact your GP practice and get checked out.”
