Nightlife ‘has to offer more to visitors’

OLDHAM’S biggest nightclub has thrown down a challenge to other pubs and venues to “raise the bar” when Metrolink arrives in the town centre next year.
Terry Bruce, fresh from a hat-trick of success for Liquid and Envy at Oldham’s Best Bar None Awards 2013 at which he collected a special achievement award, believes Oldham has to make a big effort with its nightlife if it is to succeed.
“The Metrolink has caused a lot of disruption in the town over the last few years — we were 50 per cent down year-on-year at the low point — but we cannot just sit back and think that when the trams start running in the town centre the people will come flooding back.

“We have to offer them more and I challenge the owners of the bars and clubs to do everything they can to make Oldham an inviting place that the people want to come to.”
Terry said Liquid and Envy would certainly be playing its part in a new-look Oldham that will also include the town-centre cinema and restaurants that will soon be under construction at the old town hall.
“This is an opportunity but one we have to grasp. Here at Liquid and Envy we shall be investing substantial amounts of money to convert the venue into a three or four-scene attraction that will be welcoming for drinkers of all ages.”
The Best Bar None awards are playing their part in improving Oldham’s nightlife.
