Director is sought to serve on trust board

THE Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint a new non-executive director from the local community to serve on its board.

They would be one of the six non-executive directors, starting from January 1, 2014.

The trust is one of the largest in the North-West and employs around 9,000 staff serving a population of approximately 850,000 people living in Oldham, Rochdale, Middleton, North Manchester, Bury, Prestwich parts of East Lancashire.

With a total annual operating budget of over £560 million, the trust runs The Royal Oldham Hospital, North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Rochdale Infirmary and a range of community health services across the north part of the city of Manchester. It is one of the largest non-teaching trusts in England.

The Board of every NHS trust must have non-executive directors to help plan for the future to improve healthcare services and ensure services are safe and of high quality in the best interests of patients.

Responsibilities include making sure that:

The trust management team meets its performance targets.

The finances are managed properly with accurate information.

The trust board works in the public interest and keeps its patients and the public properly informed.

In particular, the trust is looking for candidates who have a genuine commitment to patients, to the promotion of excellent health care services and have recent and relevant finance experience gained in a large and complex organisation with an accountancy qualification. The successful candidate will chair the audit committee.

The successful candidate will be asked to commit a minimum of 2.5 days per month on NHS duties, including some evening engagements, and will receive £6,157 a year, which is the current rate for non-executives of NHS trusts.

The closing date for applications is 11am on Thursday, November 28, with interviews on December 17.
