CHARITY in Oldham has been given £50,000 grant towards its programme to help young people in their search for work.
The Werneth and Freehold Community Development Project, in Tamworth Street, put in an application for a grant from the J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust in January and have just been told of their success.
The charity, which was set up in 1991, has opened up two pre-schools in the Oldham area and works with children and adults alike.
The money will go towards young people not in employment or educational training (NEET). It will assist NEETs with job searches, provide internet access and trips to bigger employers outside the local area to look for more opportunities.
The JP Getty Jnr Charitable Trust has awarded nearly £70 million in grants to thousands of charities across the United Kingdom since 1986.
Development worker Shirley Dickson said: “We waited so long for it, so it was a fantastic surprise.
“It was fantastic news to get it. We met their criteria, which is to enhance the lives of young people and get them ready for the world of work.”
