Moving tribute for tragic Paul
Date published: 12 November 2013
A COMMUNITY has paid tribute to a 12-year-old boy who died suddenly from suspected appendicitis.
Family and friends gathered at Hollinwood Tenants’ Hall for a memorial fireworks party to remember Paul Marcroft, of Corwen Close, who was a pupil at Oldham’s Oasis Academy.
Julie Hughes, who helps run the tenants’ hall, spoke to the Chronicle on behalf of Paul’s family.
She said: “Paul died recently at home. His death was sudden and his family believe it was caused by appendicitis. It may have been that Paul wasn’t aware that he was unwell. He had autism and may have been unaware of any pain. We understand it was quite a rapid illness.
“He died on Wednesday, October 30, and we held the party at Hollinwood Tenants’ Hall on Friday night in his memory. We asked guests to wear green because that was Paul’s favourite colour.
“We let off 100 green balloons in his memory and had fireworks. We also had a tombola, bottle and cake stall, hot food and drink, face painting, fancy dress and games.
“Paul’s family live in the area and everyone was very sad to hear about their loss. Proceeds from the event will be donated towards the cost of Paul’s funeral.”
