Mission to help homeless heroes
Date published: 15 November 2013
A CHARITY which helps homeless ex-servicemen is holding a comedy and music night with entertainers including Mossley singer-songwriter Martin Stimson and Buzz Hawkins — the man behind “The Bradshaws” radio comedy.
Help 4 Homeless Veterans assists ex-service personnel who struggle to find accommodation and jobs. They can also be vulnerable to abusing medication and drink.
The charity is organising the fund-raising show on Friday at the Royal George Hotel, Manchester Road, Greenfield, at 8pm.
Folk singer Martin Stimson has done a number of charity fund-raising events and one of his songs, “The Blue Ribbon”, appears on You Tube with the backing of the family of Pte Robert Foster, a soldier killed by friendly fire in 2007 while with the Royal Anglian Regiment in Afghanistan.
Mossley-based Kevin Hartley (55) is the director of the charity. He grew up in Gorton and spent 25 years with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.
He is also involved with the Regular Force Employment Association (RFEA) — described as the oldest forces charities in the UK.
He said: “Help 4 Homeless Veterans helps ex-servicemen across the country to find homes and get ready for work. Many of them face a crisis when they leave the military.”
For tickets to the event, call Mr Stimson on 01457-834 970 or Mr Hartley on 01457-831 140.
