WHEN Oldham Royal Navy recruit Adam Trennery got down on one knee during his passing-out parade, his family could have been forgiven for thinking it was all part of his drills.

But instead the 22-year-old trainee engineering technician pulled out an engagement ring and popped the question to Lauren Robinson for the second time in their four-and-a-half year relationship.

It was a unique and special way to mark the end of his 10-week intensive training course at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

Adam, a former pupil of Our Ladies High School, said: “I first asked Lauren to marry me two years ago when we were on holiday in Corfu, but I wanted to do again properly and replace her engagement ring.

“I thought what better time to ask than at the end of my passing-out-parade.

“I bought the ring during an afternoon’s leave at the end of week seven of our course.

“I wasn’t sure how she would react, because she doesn’t like to be the centre of attention.”

Fortunately for Adam, Lauren, who is also aged 22 and from Rochdale, accepted his proposal once again.

Lauren, who was overcome with emotion by the gesture, said: “I am shaking and very happy.”
