A LEADING light at Oldham Music Centre has achieved a master's degree in the subject she is most passionate about.

Liz Brocklehurst, who conducts Oldham Youth Choir, received the accolade in music education after three years of hard study.

The modules she has covered include assessment for learning and current issues in education.

Liz's final extended study was based around choosing appropriate and appealing repertoire for Cambiata voices Ñ this refers specifically to trebles (boy sopranos) whose voices are beginning to change and becoming lower as they mature.

The course has helped Liz to consider the issues facing young boys as their voices change.

She said: "I'd just like to thank the Music Centre for the support I've received while I've been doing this course and also my colleagues for having such confidence in my abilities. Graduation is at the beginning of December."

Gerard Booth, director of music for Oldham, added: "I offer my warm congratulations to Liz. I am delighted to have further confirmation (not that any were needed) of just what talented staff we have at the Music Centre.

"It also demonstrates that yet again we in Oldham lead the way as a key member of the Greater Manchester Music Hub."
