A 93-YEAR-OLD man has died after being attacked by a fellow resident at a Failsworth care home.
Fred Adams was in bed when the 73-year-old man, who is believed to suffer from dementia, attacked him at Acorn Lodge.
Staff at the home, on Guido Street, were alerted to the incident and both men were taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with minor injuries.
Both returned home later that day however Mr Adams was taken back to hospital six days later after suffering from a wound infection to his hand.
He died on Friday, November 8, after contracting septicaemia, a post mortem revealed.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Rawlinson said: "We are investigating what, at this stage, is an unexplained death.
"It would be unhelpful to publicly speculate on how this happened and we are now working closely with the home and local authority to help establish the full circumstances.
It was reported that the hand injury came from being bitten during the attack, however the police have said that there is no evidence to support this.
