Yes we can!

BOB the Builder was called to Oldham town centre yesterday as hundreds of families turned out for the Christmas lights switch-on.
The children’s favourite — catchphrase “Can we fix it . . . yes we can” — headlined the event which proved to be a colourful spectacular punctuated by a fantastic fireworks display.
The fun started from noon with a Christmas market on High Street, children’s funfair and hot food stalls.
Town-centre mascots Ollie and Millie handed out free hats and sweets to children and three lucky residents won tickets to see “Jack and the Beanstalk” at the Coliseum.
Oldham Mayor, Councillor John Hudson, said: “This is always something we need to do to make sure we reach out to families and attract them for the Christmas parade.
“This is all part of the regeneration to get Oldham back on track with all the disruption we have had.
Fabulous
“At least now with the new college and hotel and cultural centre, it does mean that there will be a lot more worth coming to Oldham for.”
Youth Mayor Emma O’Donnell said: “It’s great to be here, this season brings so many people together. It’s great to switch on the lights and start it all off.”
Emma Middlebrook, whose stage name is Emma Lou, sang a rendition of Adele’s “Skyfall”.
