POLICE are investigating after a woman was raped by an intruder in Oldham.
Officers were called to an address in the Hollins Road area following a report of a woman being raped during a break-in on Sunday.
Between 3 and 6am, the woman, in her 30s, disturbed an intruder who had broken into a house.
He then followed her upstairs and raped her before leaving.
The victim is now being supported by specially-trained officers.
The offender is described as white, in his 40s, with a large muscular build, clean shaven and with short brown hair.
Detective Sergeant Martin Ashurst, of the Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “This was a harrowing attack on a woman in her own home.
“I want to reassure people that this type of incident is very rare and that we are now conducting a detailed investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Sexual Offences Unit on 0161 856 1741 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
