Michelin-starred Le Manoir on Michael’s CV

A STUDENT from Oldham is cooking up a storm after securing a placement at Raymond Blanc’s exclusive Michelin-starred restaurant.

Michael Lord donned his chef’s hat and took his place in the kitchen at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, in Oxford, to get a taste for cooking fine cuisine.

The 19-year-old, who studied level 3 professional cookery at Hopwood Hall College, completed the prestigious work placement straight after finishing his course.

While working on the starters section of the kitchen, Michael was responsible for preparing the finest range of ingredients and dishes for customers, using some of the specialist skills he learned on his course.

Michael believes he couldn’t have asked for a better start to his career than at the restaurant which boasts two Michelin stars and where a meal for two can cost £400.

He said: “It was just like being at college, but a lot faster.

“All the chefs were really nice and I learnt a lot while I was there. They showed a lot of respect towards me and to others which was good to see.”

The budding chef has also spent his time entering cookery competitions and took home the top prize at the North-West Commis Chef of the Year Competition 2013.

“I wish him the best of luck in the industry – I’m sure he’ll be a great chef.”
