It’s no flute...wind band sails to glory
Date published: 22 November 2013
OLDHAM Youth Wind Band achieved the highest accolade possible at a regional festival.
The group won a platinum award at the National Concert Band Regional Festival.
The festival, which took place at Altrincham Grammar School, is one of the highlights of the concert band calendar and it attracts groups from around the country playing to the highest standards.
Conducted by Andrew Wilson, the band gave an outstanding performance of “Illyrian Dances” by Guy Woolfenden.
The platinum achievement gives the band automatic entry into the National Concert Band Festival final which will be held in Birmingham next year.
Andrew Wilson said: “I am so proud of each and every one of the youth wind band. Keith Allen, the adjudicator, said we captured the style of the Illyrian Dances to perfection and he will be telling the composer, Guy Woolfenden, of the quality of our playing.”
