Music maestro James

MINI maestro James Fitzsimons is taking the musical world by storm one competition at a time.

The nine-year-old, who can turn his hand to singing, piano and guitar, is a member of Voice Recall, a group that practises at Oldham Music Centre.

At Holmfirth Music Festival earlier this month, he won two trophies for his singing, first prize in the under 13s guitar category and first prize in the under 11s piano section.

James was also commended for his performance in the under 14s musicals section and for his contribution in the under 11s piano duet category.

And just a few days later, James scooped a raft of trophies at the Haydn Wood Festival in Colne Valley.

He won the nine and under piano and under 11s guitar and he came second in the 11 and under piano.

James also received the Milnes Memorial Trophy for scoring the highest mark for his guitar performance and the Muriel J Hirst Memorial Trophy for scoring the highest mark in the junior piano classes.

As well as fitting in regular piano, guitar and singing lessons, James — a pupil at Hulme Preparatory School — is also a member of three swimming clubs so he rarely has a spare moment.
