AN Oldham musician is celebrating after his band landed a recording contract.
James Borland (28) was working as an electrician with collegue Adam Redmond, from Wigan, when they formed The Relays which has now been signed by Killer Gorilla.
Their debut single “Last Night She Said” will be launched with a special gig at Dry Live in Manchester on Saturday.
The band, which plays electro indie pop, is made up of lead guitarist James, guitarist and vocalist Adam, drummer Ben Harrington and bass guitarist Paul Hitchen.
A year ago they took their music to guitarist John Kettle, of the indie folk rock band The Tansads and Merry Hell. He liked them so much that he allowed them to practise for free above his studio in Wigan.
The artwork for the single has been produced by Brian Cannon, who has previously designed covers for Oasis and The Verve. This came about as Adam has known Brian for many years, and even appeared in one of the Oasis album covers when he was 11.
