Clint heads South for club’s 18th
Date published: 22 November 2013
OLDHAM DJ Clint Boon will make his 700th appearance at Manchester nightclub South on Saturday as the venue celebrates its 18th birthday.
Clint, who plays keyboards with the Inspiral Carpets and presents a radio show on XFM, will be joined behind the decks by the Happy Mondays.
For the past 12 years, Clint has spent every Saturday night running Disco Rescue for his fans, affectionately known as the Boon Army.
Launched in 1995 by former Hacienda promotions manager Paul Cons, South — in King Street South — launched seminal nights including The Glory Hole, Rinky Dink and Board, which featured an in-club skateboard ramp.
South was relaunched in 2010 by new owners Tokyo Industries and underwent a major refurbishment including a new sound system, dancefloor, courtyard and cinema screen.
Clint said: “South is the place where, pretty much every Saturday night for over 12 years, I’ve stood and played my favourite records of all time to the most amazing bunch of party people in the greatest city in the world.
“ I’ve laughed, cried, danced, been sick and been carried out like the best of ’em and it remains the highpoint of my week.”
