‘All I wanted to do was get back in my house’
Date published: 22 November 2013
A WOMAN whose home was damaged in the 2012 Shaw gas blast is at loggerheads with the firm that repaired her property over perceived shoddy workmanship.
The householder was left devastated after she hired Revive Builders to carry out works including fitting a new bathroom, repairing her floor and fixing a leak in the kitchen.
But the woman, whose insurance company paid £10,000 for the work up front, was far from pleased with what she claimed were botched repairs and has refused to pay the remaining £7,400.
The builders and its adjusters Affinity Solutions have now started legal proceedings to recover the remaining balance despite the woman’s dissatisfaction.
She said: “I just don’t want this to happen to anyone else. I hired them for the job because they were friendly and seemed to care.
“But the work they have done isn’t up to standard. They have damaged my table, my floor and the bathroom has been left in a dangerous state.
“They told us that they would negotiate with our insurers, which was really helpful at a time of crisis, but then they asked for a percentage of the money for a fee. But this wasn’t mentioned up front.
“All I wanted to do was get back in my house and get my life back together after the blast and this has made it even worse.”
Revive’s managing director Lee Buckley said he did not want to comment on the situation due to ongoing legal proceedings.
