Date published: 22 November 2013
A 39-YEAR-OLD Oldham man was arrested yesterday after a woman was raped by an intruder in her own home.
The victim, in her 30s, disturbed a burglar at the house in Hollins Road between 3 and 6am on Sunday. But the thug then followed her upstairs and carried out the attack before fleeing.
The suspect remains in police custody for questioning.
Chief Superintendent Catherine Hankinson, Oldham Divisional Commander, said: “This was a dreadful attack on a woman in her own home and I hope the local community are reassured that we have brought a man into custody.
“However, we will continue to investigate until we have firmly established the full circumstances.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Sexual Offences Unit on 0161-856 1741 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
